Our Youth Options
Program (YOP) in Armadale is an innovative week-day program assisting youth (12
– 18 years old) to make appropriate choices about their own lives and to become
active contributors in the community in which we all live.
Young people attending YOP come from varying circumstances, including truancy,
exhibiting offending behaviours, family breakdown, substance abuse, poor social
or academic skills and may also be marginalised from mainstream services.
The aim is to motivate and increase self esteem for the young people in the
program, and help provide them with skills which can transfer back into everyday
life.
The program is run in a well equipped workshop where young people have the opportunity to further their skills in areas such as woodwork, mechanics and metal work, computing, cooking, artistic expression, music, literacy & numeracy and other life skills. Clients work in group activities as well as being encouraged to undertake self directed projects in areas of their personal interest. There is also a recreational activity and outings component to the program.
